Misery loves company, and there was plenty of it in Week 8

The wear and tear of the season is starting to show. We saw a middle-finger salute from Tennessee, an ill-tempered Jimbo Fisher, another near-miss for Texas and prime-time clunkers for USC and Michigan.

James Franklin says he has been working on the direct snap to Barkley wrinkle since training camp. Franklin had to convince Moorhead not to show that look in the first six games.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

James Franklin called tonight's record crowd at Beaver Stadium "awesome." He said he gave his players 30 seconds to soak it in when they first took the field. He was, though, a little disappointed in the lack of white pants he saw for the white out.

Penn State payback: No. 2 Nittany Lions beat Michigan 42-13

Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley cut through Michigan's stingy defense, each scoring three touchdowns, and No. 2 Penn State emphatically avenged its last regular-season loss with a 42-13 victory against the 19th-ranked Wolverines on Saturday night.

It's awfully quiet at Beaver Stadium right now. Michigan has weathered an initial storm from Saquon Barkley & Co. Central Pennsylvania native John O'Korn has made some big throws for the Wolverines to get them back in the game.

play
Higdon scores on fourth down for Michigan (0:29)

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

Trace McSorley has missed on a few throws tonight. An interception has given a bit of life at the end of the first quarter. If nothing else, the Wolverines have found a way to settle down after a rocky start.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

Consecutive three-and-outs for Michigan's offense doesn't give Don Brown and the defense much time to settle down and make adjustments. Michigan needs to find a way to slow things down if they're going to keep this game competitive.

Barkley starts game off with 69-yard TD (0:43)

It looked like the entire Penn State sideline just broke out in a sprint on Saquon Barkley's first carry of the game. They couldn't catch him. Neither could Michigan. The Heisman candidate and his team are off and running early.
