UTSA leads entire way to beat Rice 20-7

SAN ANTONIO -- Marcus Davenport scored on a 34-yard fumble return with eight minutes left in the first quarter and UT-San Antonio led the entire way in a 20-7 homecoming win over Rice on Saturday night.

The Roadrunners (4-2, 1-2 Conference USA) led 17-7 on Dalton Sturm's 26-yard pass to Brady Jones early in the third quarter and Jared Sackett's second field goal capped the scoring with 5:40 left in the period.

The Owls (1-6, 1-2) scored their only points on Sam Glaesmann's 50-yard pass to Aaron Cephus that made it 10-7 with 4:11 left in the second quarter.

Tyrell Clay ran 11 times for 153 yards for UTSA. Sturm completed 12 of 21 for 134 yards and ran for 79 yards on 14 carries.

Cephus had two catches for 105 yards and a touchdown for Rice.

Davenport finished with 11 tackles -- including 3 1/2 for losses, two of which were sacks.
