Elderly leads UAB to 52-0 win, 1st shutout in 10 years

A.J. Erdely threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns and Spencer Brown rushed for 102 yards and a score as UAB posted its first shutout since 2008 with a 52-0 victory over Savannah State in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.

Bryant Vincent is back as UAB's offensive coordinator, a source told ESPN. Vincent was the Blazer's O.C. in 2014 and set school records for yards and points before the program was shut down. The 42-year-old spent the last two-plus years at South Alabama before stepping down. UAB football returned last season and went 8-5 and finished second in Conference USA. Vincent will inherit 10 starters from an offense that averaged 27.8 points per game.

UAB finishes perfect home season, wins 28-7

Three coaches from the state of Alabama -- UAB's Bill Clark, Auburn's Gus Malzahn and Alabama's Nick Saban -- are among the 16 semifinalists for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award presented by the Maxwell Football Club. Saban and Malzahn have their teams in position to make a run at the College Football Playoff, and Clark has taken a program that was shut down and has it bowl eligible in its first season back.
