Next stop: NBA? Top talents had an early exit at NCAA tournament

With the way the tourney is shaping up, the later rounds might be lacking in future high NBA draft picks. Deandre Ayton, Collin Sexton and Trae Young all saw their seasons -- and probably their college careers -- come to an end.

Arizona 7-footer Deandre Ayton, who is currently projected to be the No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft, and guard Allonzo Trier, who is a projected second-round pick, both officially declared for the NBA draft after the Wildcats' 89-68 loss to No. 13 seed Buffalo.

Paul Sabin ESPN Analytics

How does Arizona's loss impact the South region? According to BPI, not much. Kentucky is up 78% to reach the Sweet 16 as a result but each of the top 3 seed's chances to reach the final four from the South barely moved as BPI sees a decent gap between UVA/Cincinnati and the rest.

With Arizona's loss to Buffalo, the Pac-12 has officially made history. (Not the good kind.) Per ESPN Stats and Info, no major conference has failed to send a team to the round of 32 since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996-97. The 2018 Pac-12 is the first of its kind.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Here's Arizona's projected roster for 2018-19 as it stands: Alex Barcello, Brandon Randolph, Dylan Smith, Emmanuel Akot, Ira Lee, Chase Jeter. That's it. Six players returning, no current commitments.

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

Arizona is taking this game inside. We've barely gotten into the second half and the Wildcats have 32 points in the paint compared to Buffalo's 22. Certainly makes up for being 1-for-9 from 3

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

If you're Buffalo you're certainly happy that you're up 40-38 over Arizona at the half but the Wildcats haven't seen much of Deandre Ayton to this point. He has just 7 points and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes. Ayton's size hasn't been much of a factor at all as Buffalo's smaller front court really frustrated him in the first half

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

Kentucky will have a 46% chance to advance to the Sweet 16 if it has to face Arizona in the second round and a 78% chance if its opponent is Buffalo, per BPI.
