Childs, hot shooting BYU run away from Santa Clara 84-50

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Yoeli Childs had 22 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high eight assists on Saturday night to help BYU beat Santa Clara 84-50.

Childs had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists in the first half when the Cougars built a 46-28 lead by shooting 19 of 24 (79 percent) from the field and outrebounding the Broncos 19-2.

BYU (15-4, 4-2 West Coast Conference) took the lead for good with an 8-0 run that ended at 19-11 near the 12-minute mark of the first half. The Cougars extended the lead with an 11-0 run later in the half, and took advantage of Santa Clara's cold shooting in the second half (16 straight misses) to lead by as many as 38 before the conclusion.

TJ Haws made 4 of 5 from 3-point range and scored 14. Elijah Bryant added 14 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Josip Vrankic led Santa Clara (6-12, 3-3) with 20 points and seven rebounds.
