KSU's Wade (foot) could miss game vs. UMBC

KSU's leading scorer Dean Wade hasn't officially been ruled out, but even if he sees time Sunday vs. UMBC, Wade would likely not see much action, coach Bruce Weber said on Saturday.

Coming off their historic upset, the 16-seed UMBC Retrievers open as 10-point underdogs against 9-seed Kansas State at Westgate LV SuperBook.

Bruce Weber won't rule out having Dean Wade on Sunday. ‪"I don't think it's going to be major minutes but he wants to be a part of it."‬ Wade, K-State's top scorer, missed Friday with a stress fracture in his foot.

The winner of this game earns the right to likely face Virginia in the second round. BPI would give Kansas State and Creighton an 8% and 14% chance to beat the Cavaliers, respectively.

Kansas is headed to the Big 12 tournament final on Saturday against Texas Tech or West Virginia after an 83-67 win over outmanned Kansas State, the Jayhawks' 10th win in as many tries against their Sunflower State rivals in this event. Malik Newman led KU with 22 points. The Wildcats owned the paint on the offensive end as Kansas played without big man Udoka Azubuike; K-State forward Makol Mawien scored a career-best 29 points. But with all-league forward Dean Wade sidelined by a foot injury and guard Barry Brown hit in the eye one minute into the game -- he did not return -- Kansas State could not get closer than two in the second half after KU built a 16-point lead.

Here comes Kansas State. The Wildcats, with their top two scorers out injured, are chipping into Kansas' lead behind the likes of freshman guard Mike McGuirl, who had played in just seven games before tonight. The Cats shaved 14 of 16 points from the Kansas lead before the midway point of the second half in the first of the Big 2 tournament semifinals.
