Grand Canyon wins home opener, routs Delaware State 89-47

PHOENIX -- Trey Drechsel and Oscar Frayer each scored 15 points and Grand Canyon rolled to an 89-47 victory over Delaware State on Saturday night.

The Antelopes (1-1) have won 16 straight home openers.

Drechsel and Frayer made six field goals apiece for Grand Canyon, which was 52 percent from the field. Drechsel, a senior transfer from Western Washington, also led the Antelopes with eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals in 25 minutes.

Alessandro Lever added 14 points and Carlos Johnson chipped in 13.

Pinky Wiley scored 16 points and Saleik Edwards had 11 to lead Delaware State (0-2).

The Hornets stayed within single digits until the final six minutes of the first half when Grand Canyon used a 19-12 surge to build a 39-27 halftime lead. Delaware State opened the second half with a 3-pointer, but Grand Canyon answered with an 18-0 run.
