Lewis guides NJIT to first win over LIU Brooklyn, 73-69

NEWARK, N.J. -- Abdul Lewis scored 23 points and grabbed 18 of NJIT's 32 rebounds and the Highlanders beat LIU Brooklyn for the first time, 73-69, on Tuesday night.

Lewis added four assists and Diandre Wilson chipped in with 16 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Highlanders (4-2), who were 0-4 against the Blackbirds (2-6) coming in.

NJIT has won three straight games and is off to the best start in school history.

Raiquan Clark paced LIU Brooklyn with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Joel Hernandez scored 13 with six assists, Julian Batts had 13 points and five rebounds and Jashaun Agoston scored 11 for the Blackbirds, who dropped their third straight game.

LIU Brooklyn led by three points before NJIT used a 6-0 run, capped by San Antonio Brinson's dunk, to forge a 41-38 lead at halftime. The Blackbirds led once in the second half at 48-47 on a Hernandez layup with 15:42 to play, but Anthony Tarke, Lewis and Wilson all had layups in a 6-0 run to push the lead back to five and the Highlanders never trailed again.
