Fields jumper gives Cal Poly 71-68 edge over UC Riverside

SAN LUIS OPISBO, Calif. -- Donovan Fields sank a jumper with seconds to play to put Cal Poly on top for a 71-68 win over UC Riverside on Wednesday night.

The Mustangs (7-15, 2-6 Big West) led 38-34 at halftime but fell behind in the second half to trail 58-56 with 8:21 to play. They stayed close, tying the score twice before Fields hit his jumper with 12 seconds left to put them on top, 69-68. Victor Joseph sank two free throws in the final seconds for the final score.

Joseph led Cal Poly with 22 points, making 3 of 5 from distance. Josh Martin added 10 points and Fields and Jakub Niziol added nine apiece.

Idy Diallo scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Highlanders (5-17, 0-8) who have lost 10 straight and are winless in conference. DJ Sylvester and Koh Flippin added 11 points apiece.
