Petrie sets frosh scoring record, Lafayette beats Holy Cross

EASTON, Pa. -- Alex Petrie nailed seven from long range for 29 points as Lafayette evened its Patriot League record by beating Holy Cross 60-48 on Tuesday night.

Petrie, who made all seven of Lafayette's shots from distance, set a freshman scoring record for the Leopards (3-10, 1-1). He was 7 of 8 from beyond the arc and 8 of 12 from the floor. He also dropped in all six free-throw attempts.

Matt Klinewski added 17 points and Paulius Zalys chipped in seven points with nine rebounds for Lafayette.

The Leopards, who lost their conference opener to Lehigh 79-74 on Friday night, dominated the second half 39-24 against Holy Cross. Trailing 24-21 at the break, Petrie nailed a trey to start the second period and Lafayette took the lead for good when Petrie drilled another trey at the 17:18 mark.

Karl Charles had 13 points to lead Holy Cross (3-10, 0-2), which made just 2 of 24 from long range.
