Funk takes over in OT, Marist tops Fairfield 95-89

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Ryan Funk scored 10 of his 13 points in overtime and Marist made just enough free throws down the stretch to hold off Fairfield 95-89 on Saturday.

Funk opened the extra period with a 3-pointer to give the Red Foxes (4-13, 2/3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) an 83-80 lead. Kevin Senghore-Peterson's layup cut the Fairfield deficit to one, but Funk buried another shot from long range to put Marist up four.

Senghorne-Peterson made 1 of 2 free throws to make it 86-83, but Funk made 4 of 6 free throws and Marist scored its last nine from the foul line to snap a three-game skid.

David Knudsen scored 24 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Red Foxes. Austin Wiliams added 23 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench.

Tyler Nelson hit five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 35 points for the Stags (6-11, 1-5). Aidas Kavaliauskas added 14 points and 10 assists, while Jesus Cruz scored 10.

Nelson hit a 3 with 50 seconds left in regulation to put Fairfield up 80-79. It was the Stags' first lead of the second half. Williams hit 1 of 2 free throws to force overtime.
