Sam Houston St. slips past Lamar 71-69 in final seconds

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- John Dewey III stole an inbound pass and fed Christopher Galbreath Jr. for a layup in the final seconds as Sam Houston State took a 71-69 win over Lamar in Southland Conference play on Saturday night.

Sam Houston State trailed 69-65 with 1:03 remaining when Galbreath drove for a layup. Galbreath followed with another quick layup after Dewey's theft to tie and Josh Delaney made two free throws in the final three seconds to secure the win.

The score was tied 13 times with 11 lead changes.

The Bearkats travel to Nicholls (16-9, 10-2) to face the league leaders on Wednesday.

Galbreath finished with 16 points, Jamal Williams added 13 with nine rebounds and five assists and Abrian Edwards added 10 points for the Bearkats (16-10, 10-3) for their fourth straight victory.

SHSU shot 53 percent (26-49) from the floor while holding the Cardinals to 25-of-58 shooting (43 percent).

Josh Nzeakor had 23 points for Lamar (15-11, 7-6).
