Veal has 20 points as SE Louisiana holds off McNeese 74-67

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Marlain Veal scored six of his 20 points in the final seconds to help Southeastern Louisiana hold off McNeese for a 74-67 victory on Saturday.

The Lions were ahead 40-30 at the break and led 59-47 midway in the second period. The Cowboys rallied as Stephen Ugochukwu made six straight points and Kalob Ledoux added a jumper to close to 61-59. They stayed within a goal, trailing 67-65 following Jarren Greenwood's layup with 1:18 remaining, until Veal made six straight free throws and Moses Greenwood added another in the final 38 seconds to secure the win.

Veal had two steals and one block. Moses Greenwood also had 20 points and Jordan Capps added 15 with seven rebounds for the Lions (16-10, 10-3 Southland Conference), who have won three straight. Southeastern Louisiana reached 10 conference wins for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Quatarrius Wilson had 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead McNeese (8-14, 5-7).
