UNC Greensboro claims SoCon title beating Samford 88-75

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Marvin Smith scored a career-high 26 points, Kyrin Galloway scored 15 and UNC Greensboro clinched the Southern Conference regular-season championship with an 88-75 win over Samford on Sunday.

The Spartans (24-7, 15-3) won the conference outright after Furman (22-9, 13-5) defeated second-place East Tennessee State (23-8, 14-4), 79-76, earlier in the day.

The Spartans built a 25-8 lead on the strength of four 3-pointers from Smith and another from Francis Alonso. Jordy Kuiper later added a 3 and the lead was 35-15 with 4:53 before halftime. UNC Greensboro shot 18 of 32 (56 percent) including 9 of 16 from 3-point range before intermission. Alonso scored 14 points and Isaiah Miller and Kuiper each scored 10.

Eric Adams scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 10 of 11 from the free throw line for Samford (10-21, 6-12), Demetrius Denzel-Dyson scored 15 and Alex Thompson and Justin Coleman each scored 12.
