Pepperdine tops Portland 75-64 to snap 8-game skid

MALIBU, Calif. -- Kameron Edwards scored 14 of his 22 points in a pivotal first half and Pepperdine snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 75-64 victory over Portland on Saturday night.

Edwards also grabbed nine rebounds to help the Waves (5-25, 2-16 West Coast Conference) control the boards 42-29. Darnell Dunn notched his first double-double for Pepperdine with 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Trae Berhow had 14 points and Knox Hellums scored 10.

Malcolm Porter and D'Marques Tyson each had 12 points for the Pilots (10-21, 4-14), who dropped their sixth straight game.

Pepperdine sank six of its eight 3-pointers in the first half and held Portland to 26 percent shooting in taking a 42-17 lead into intermission. The Pilots found their shooting touch in the second half, knocking down 15 of 27 attempts (56 percent) from the floor.

Portland trailed 51-27 midway through the second half before Tyson's 3-pointer ignited a 19-4 run to pull the Pilots within 55-46 with 8:15 left. Edwards answered with six quick points to push Pepperdine's lead back to double digits and the Waves cruised from there.
