Melbourne City overcome Melbourne Victory as Sorensen shines in derby

Melbourne City defeated rivals Melbourne Victory 2-1 to stay within reach of the leaders in the A-League.

First-half goals from Stefan Mauk and Paulo Retre were enough for City in the Melbourne derby, while Victory's goal came through Besart Berisha.

City had goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen to thank, as the Dane put in an impressive performance in front of 23,572 fans.

The victory leaves the club within three points of pace-setters Western Sydney Wanderers, while Melbourne Victory are fifth in the 10-team standings.
