Murphy, Reynolds lead NC Central to 14-6 win over Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. -- Jacen Murphy caught seven passes for 145 yards and one touchdown and Davanta Reynolds intercepted in the end zone in the closing seconds to secure North Carolina Central's 14-6 win over Hampton on Saturday afternoon.

Murphy, who hauled in 10 passes for 189 yards and two scores against Delaware State last week, caught a 27-yard scoring strike from Chauncey Caldwell for the final score with 2:28 left in the first half. Hampton was driving for the possible tying score when Reynolds sealed the win for NCCU (7-2, 5-1 MEAC) with his interception.

Hampton (5-4, 4-2) got on the board first when Adam Brown booted field goals of 49 and 31 yards in the first quarter.

The NCCU defense closed the door the rest of the game. Kawuan Cox intercepted Delmon Williams, returning it six yards for a touchdown with 9:49 left in the second for NCCU's first lead.

Reggie Hunter recorded 11 tackles and one sack and Reynolds had two interceptions for the Eagles.
