Tennessee Tech rallies late for first win this season, 30-26

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Andre Sale found Tavin Kilpatrick in the back corner of the end zone and Nick Madonia added a field goal as Tennessee Tech scored 10 points late and rallied for its first win of the season, 30-26 over Tennessee State on Saturday.

Tennessee Tech (1-7, 1-4 Ohio Valley Conference) jumped to a 10-0 lead but was trailing 24-20 by midway through the third quarter when fortunes changed. After punting the ball to Tennessee State, Marcus McMeans forced a fumble and Deven Sullivan fell on it at the 32. The Golden Eagles put together a seven-play drive -- converting on a fourth-and-1 -- before Sale found Kilpatrick from the 8. The go-ahead score was Kilpatrick's first collegiate TD.

Tennessee State (4-4, 1-4) missed a field goal on its next possession and saw its final two drives end in interceptions, both by Clay Davis. Michael Hughes fired three touchdown passes to Patrick Smith, the last a 16-yarder for a 24-20 lead, as the Tigers overcame the 10-point deficit in the first five minutes of the game.
