New Hampshire ends Elon's 8-game win streak, 16-6

DURHAM, N.H. -- Justin Malone-Woods' first career touchdown reception snapped a scoreless tie and New Hampshire upset Elon 16-6 in a matchup of FCS ranked teams on Saturday.

Elon (8-2, 6-1) came in with an eight-game winning streak and tied atop the Colonial Athletic Association with top-ranked James Madison, the Phoenix's opponent in next week's regular-season finale.

Trevor Knight's 11-yard toss to Malone-Woods gave the Wildcats (7-3, 5-2) a 7-0 halftime lead that they extended to 16-0 in the third quarter. Evan Gray scored from 2 yards out to complete a 17-play, 84-yard drive and Max Pedinoff added a 31-yard field goal after one of Elon's three lost fumbles.

Elon scored with 3:16 to go on De'Sean McNair's 23-yard pass to Davis Cheek with the 2-point conversion failing. The Phoenix failed to recover an onside kick but still got the ball back with three minutes left after a fumble by Knight at the Elon 37. However, a 37-yard field-goal attempt was blocked with 52 seconds remaining.

Knight finished 32-of-42 passing for 271 yards. Cheek was 21 of 46 for 284 yards.
