Charleston Southern's Tekac hits last second FG for 10-9 win

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Tyler Tekac booted a 43-yard field goal with no time left to give Charleston Southern a surprising 10-9 win over Gardner-Webb in Big South Conference action on Saturday.

Paul Schumacher had just kicked a 37-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs a 9-7 advantage with just 18 seconds left.

Robert Mitchell threw an incomplete pass, then hit Kenny Dinkins with a 49-yard strike and Tekac kicked the game winner.

Noah Shuler's six-yard scoring run gave the Buccaneers (5-4, 2-1) a 7-3 lead with 4:58 left in the first quarter. Schumacher kicked field goals of 36 and 41 yards to trail 7-6 at the half and then took the short-lived lead with his kick with seconds left.

The Charleston Southern defense limited Gardner-Webb's quarterback Tyler Maxwell to 141 total yards and no scores. Maxwell accounted for 360 total yards and two touchdowns in Gardner-Webb's (1-8, 0-3) 17-10 win last season.
