Gubrud, Custer lift E Washington past Portland St 59-33

CHENEY, Wash. -- Gage Gubrud passed for 445 yards and four touchdowns, Antoine Custer Jr. ran for a career-high 177 yards and three scores and Eastern Washington defeated Portland State 59-33 on Saturday night to keep its FCS playoff hopes alive.

Nic Sblendorio had touchdowns of 60 and 74 yards among his nine receptions for 273 yards, third in school history behind 275-and 274-yard games by NFL rookie Cooper Kupp. Jayce Gilder also had two touchdown receptions and Gubrud ran for 67 yards and a score.

The Eagles (7-4, 6-2 Big Sky Conference) piled up 728 total yards, third most in school history and 15 yards short of the record.

Alexander Davis threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns for the Vikings (0-11, 0-8) and Charlie Taumoepeau had a career day with nine receptions for 145 yards and a score.

When De'Sean Parsons hauled in a 50-yard Hail Mary on the last play of the first half, the Vikings trailed 31-26. But Eastern scored four times in the third quarter. The four drives took 19 plays, covering 264 yards.

Davis also ran for 70 yards, Jason Talley had two rushing touchdowns and Portland State ended up with 502 yards.
