Wigan thrash Rochdale to go top of League One

Three goals in the space of eight second half minutes helped Wigan take top spot in League One after a comfortable 4-1 victory at Rochdale.They were ahead in the 17th minute when Max Power's corner was headed into the mix by Chey Dunkley and Dan Burn stooped to head past Josh Lillis.Nick Powell's drive struck the foot of the post for Wigan, while Joe Rafferty's headed attempt looped over Christian Walton but struck the Wigan crossbar.Nathan Byrne forced an acrobatic save out of Lillis before the break but just 10 minutes into the second half Wigan had their second goal. Will Grigg sent substitute James Vaughan racing into the area and he kept his cool to side-foot home.Michael Jacobs netted the third on the hour mark after twisting and turning to find room for a shot on the edge of the area.Grigg added a fourth three minutes later, converting from a tight angle after Lillis could only parry Gavin Massey's long-range strike.Dale were awarded a penalty in the 86th minute when Dunkley brought down Calvin Andrew, Steven Davies converting the consolation spot kick.
