Breaking down three key WrestleMania 34 matches by the numbers

WWE

The rich, 33-year history of WrestleMania brings with it 33 years of data to sort through and analyze. While this year's card boasts a handful of matches that could steal the show or rightfully claim the main-event position, every bout boasts statistics that help quantify a superstar's place in WrestleMania history -- even in the fictional world of WWE.

WrestleMania 34 features a number of dream matches and "first time ever" moments, but three particular matches on the card stick out for just how many number-rich circumstances they carry. Roman Reigns is poised to perform in his fourth straight closing match as he faces Brock Lesnar for the Universal championship, Asuka carries her undefeated streak that's long eclipsed Goldberg's prolific stretch and, as far as logic seems to dictate, we should be getting a WrestleMania match between The Undertaker and John Cena -- the two winningest superstars in WrestleMania history

Just a days out from the biggest WWE show of the year, here a few numbers in particular worth paying attention to heading into Sunday night.

Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns

  • WrestleMania 34's likely main event will be the second one-on-one meeting between Lesnar and Reigns. These two also headlined WrestleMania 31 three years ago. However, about 15 minutes into that match, Seth Rollins cashed in his "Money in the Bank contract" and pinned Reigns to win the WWE championship.

If this match closes the show again, it will be the fourth time two superstars meet one-on-one in the main event of two different WrestleManias.

  • This is also a matchup between the only two superstars who have ever defeated the Undertaker at WrestleMania. Lesnar ended the Phenom's WrestleMania undefeated streak at WrestleMania XXX in 2014, which also happened to take place at the Superdome in New Orleans. Reigns then defeated the Undertaker in last year's WrestleMania 33 main event.

  • Reigns appeared in the main event of each of the past three WrestleManias -- the fifth superstar in WrestleMania history to accomplish that feat. If this match closes the show, Reigns would join Hulk Hogan as the only superstars to compete in the WrestleMania main event four years in a row.

  • If this match is indeed the main event and Reigns defeats Lesnar, he would join Hulk Hogan as the only superstars in WWE history to win in the main event of WrestleMania three years in a row. Hogan did it at the first three WrestleManias (1985-87).

  • At WrestleMania, Lesnar will have been Universal champion for 371 days, tied for the third-longest world-title reign of the past 30 years. Lesnar's reign began at last year's WrestleMania when he defeated Goldberg to win the title.

  • Lesnar is an incredible 29-5 (85.3 percent) in one-on-one matches since returning to WWE in 2012, including 13 straight wins in such matches (including untelevised events). His last one-on-one loss was to Goldberg at Survivor Series in 2016.

  • Additionally, Lesnar has won each of his past six pay-per-view matches, tied for the longest winning streak of his career (also won six straight in 2003). His last loss of any kind was in the 2017 Royal Rumble Match, in which he was eliminated by Goldberg.

  • Reigns is 4-1 overall at WrestleMania, with the lone loss coming at WrestleMania 31 when Rollins cashed in "Money in the Bank" to defeat Reigns and Lesnar. Reigns looks to become the first superstar since Cena to win five of his first six career WrestleMania matches.

John Cena vs. The Undertaker

  • Fans have been clamoring for this WrestleMania dream matchup for several years now. That should come as no surprise, as this will be a meeting between the two winningest superstars in WrestleMania history.

  • Of the 14 superstars who have competed at WrestleMania at least 10 times, The Undertaker and Cena have the highest win percentages.

  • If the match happens, WrestleMania will be the first one-on-one meeting between Cena and The Undertaker in nearly 12 years. They last met on Oct. 9, 2006 on Monday Night Raw, a match that ended in a no contest due to outside interference from Big Show and King Booker. Cena and Undertaker split their other four meetings.

  • Cena has won each of his past four WrestleMania matches, tied for the longest such winning streak of his career. Cena also won his first four career WrestleMania matches in 2004-07. However, if this match happens and does not close the show, it will be the fifth straight year that Cena does not compete in the main event of WrestleMania -- his longest such drought since he debuted in WWE in 2002. He had been in the WrestleMania main event in each of the previous three years at WrestleManias 27-29.

  • Cena is also seeking his 94th career pay-per-view win, which would tie The Undertaker for most in WWE history. However, Cena has lost each of his past five pay-per-view matches, the longest losing streak of his 16-year career. His most recent win came at last year's SummerSlam against Baron Corbin.

  • Should the match happen, this will be The Undertaker's 26th career WrestleMania match. Not only is that the most in WrestleMania history, it's also the most matches for any superstar at any single pay-per-view event.

  • Should The Undertaker return, it will be to the venue where "The Streak" was broken four years ago. At WrestleMania XXX in 2014, Lesnar defeated The Undertaker to end his WrestleMania unbeaten streak at 21-0. That event also took place at The Superdome in New Orleans.

  • Sunday could be The Undertaker's first match since his loss to Reigns in the main event of last year's WrestleMania. The Undertaker has not lost consecutive one-on-one matches since back-to-back losses to Kane in 2010.

SmackDown Women's Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) v. Asuka

  • Charlotte Flair is one of four five-time women's champions in WWE history. At WrestleMania, Charlotte will have been SmackDown women's champion for 145 days, the longest reign in the title's history.

  • Charlotte is 23-7 at pay-per-view events, the best record through a superstar's first 30 pay-per-view appearances in WWE history. That includes a 17-1 record in one-on-one, pay-per-view matches.

  • Asuka enters WrestleMania on an incredible 155-match winning streak (counting non-televised events), including a 28-0 record since arriving on the WWE main roster. While Asuka did lose a handful of tag-team and multi-person matches early on in her NXT tenure, she has not been pinned or submitted since arriving in NXT in October 2015.

  • Additionally, Asuka has won 100 consecutive championship matches, a streak that began when she captured the NXT women's championship at NXT TakeOver: Dallas two years ago. WrestleMania 34 will be her first title match since relinquishing the NXT women's championship last year after her record-setting 523-day reign.

  • Asuka is 4-0 at WWE pay-per-view events. No woman in WWE history has won each of her first five career pay-per-view matches. The most recent superstars to begin their pay-per-view career 5-0 were the three members of The Shield (Reigns, Rollins and Dean Ambrose).

  • Asuka is making her WrestleMania debut. Only two superstars have won a women's title in their WrestleMania debut: Wendi Richter at WrestleMania I and Mickie James at WrestleMania 22.
