WWE Survivor Series Moments: Hello, Sting

@WWE

Ahead of this weekend's Survivor Series, we're taking a look at five of the most memorable moments in Survivor Series history.

Moment 5: The Icon Arrives, 2014 Survivor Series (Nov. 23, 2014)

Memorable for multiple reasons, the main event of the 2014 Survivor Series is one that is and will continue to be unceasingly acclaimed -- and for good reason.

First, this traditional Survivor Series match where Team Cena: John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Big Show, Ryback and Erick Rowan took on Team Authority: Seth Rollins, Kane, Rusev, Mark Henry and Luke Harper was outstanding. The back-and-forth affair was full of chaos, swerves and surprises, but the biggest surprise occurred during the closing moments of the match.

After a decorated and dynamic 30-year career performing outside of the WWE, the iconic Sting arrived at a WWE arena to make the assist for Team Cena. The scene saw Sting confront Team Authority leader, Triple H, in the middle of the ring, creating a remarkable, goose bump-generating atmosphere. The two circled around each other scowling and glaring all while being serenaded with "this is awesome" chants. The feeling that something special was happening filled the air. As Sting dropped Triple H, allowing Team Cena to claim victory, it's hard not to put this near the top of the Survivor Series' moments list just because of its historical value. Sting, the heart and soul of WCW, finally made it to the WWE, and finally got a chance to round out his extraordinary career.

The monumental appearance set the stage for an eventual WrestleMania showdown with Triple H the following year, which then led to a WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2016. During his speech at the Hall of Fame, Sting announced his retirement. This was his final in-ring accomplishment and it all started at the Survivor Series.
