Leon Edwards wants Darren Till at UFC Liverpool: 'Everyone thinks he's the second coming of god but I don't'

UFC's Leon Edwards wants Darren Till at UFC Liverpool in May and insists he isn't as good as everyone says he is.

Edwards made his presence known during the main card at UFC London on March 17 after defeating Peter Sobotta via technical knockout at 4:59 in the third round.

The welterweight turned his attention to Till who was sitting cageside and called for a fight against the popular Liverpool fighter.

"I feel I'm the number one welterweight in the world," Edwards said post-fight. "He thinks he's the number one welterweight in the world so let's prove it May 27 in Liverpool."

Edwards remains unimpressed with Till "leapfrogging him" in the welterweight rankings to fight to Donald Cerrone back in Oct. 2017, and after the announcement of UFC Liverpool, he is hoping to get a match-up with his countryman.

"From what I've seen Darren is only good when he comes forward, when you back him up he's not as good," Edwards said. "I feel I will beat him.

"He has a standard Thai boxing style there is nothing that is amazing to me when I watch Darren Till. Everyone thinks he's the second coming of god but I don't, that's all."

Aside from appearing on UFC Fight Night Liverpool, 26-year-old is also eyeing a future bout in the U.S., potentially on the UFC 226 July card.

"I've never lost in Europe I like fighting here but I feel I will turn my talent now to the States," he added. "The top ten guys are refusing to come to the UK to fight me so I feel I have to go to the States to hunt them down and try get a fight there so my next fight -- if not Till -- I will go to the States in July."

Elsewhere, in UFC London's co-main event, Poland's Jan Blachowicz defeated London's own Jimi 'Poster Boy' Manuwa via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) after three hard-fought rounds.

In a rematch that few were anticipating it didn't disappoint with three rounds of non-stop action that may demand a trilogy in the future.

"Jimi has a really good takedown defence," Blachowicz said. "So I could only take him down a few times but it was enough to win this fight because I was prepared for everything for knockout, submission or decision."

After the win Blachowicz added he would maybe like to fight in Russia and didn't hesitate when it came to who he would want to face.

"If the UFC go to Russia I would like to fight over there but we will see," he added. "I always say the same I would like to fight against Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua because he is a legend and my style and his style would make a great fight."
