UFC's Darren Till: Why my fight in March didn't happen

MMA, UFC

UFC fighter Darren Till has revealed sickness as the reason behind not fighting in March and insists his next fight is "going to be big".

Till (16-0-1, 10 KOs) was touted as a potential headliner for the UFC Fight Night London on March 17, and despite being interested in appearing on the card, the Brit opted to follow the advice of his coach and find an alternative date instead.

The event, which is set to take place at London's O2 Arena, is now headlined by heavyweight fight Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexander Volkov.

"In March it was just too early," Till told ESPN. "I was up for fighting in March but I'd just been coming back over Christmas from a sickness.

"My coach said 'listen, when you're fighting you know I need 12 to 8 weeks with you, you're only going to get four to five weeks and it's not good enough'.

"Because when you fight you need to not just beat these guys, you need to destroy them so there's no doubt in people's minds. So, again I listened to my coach. I believe in him, everything he says. So I said 'okay, coach' and the fight for March didn't get made."

Till's last appearance in an octagon came in Oct. 2017 when he beat Donald Cerrone via first round TKO.

Despite it being nearly six months since that outing, the undefeated Brit isn't concerned who he faces next and is adamant it's going to be a big name.

"People are anticipating my next move and whatever it's going to be, it's going to be big," said Till. "I'm not fussy over my opponent.

"I've said many times I don't want to pick opponents and I don't want the UFC to pick opponents to give me an easier route or anyone else.

"I want to fight the best to know in my head I am the best. If I get beat I'll take it like a man. I'm ready and waiting."
