Dan Evans will not be awarded a wild card into the main draw of the Wimbledon Championships, tournament organisers have confirmed.

Evans, who lost to Australian teen Alex de Minaur in the final of the Nature Valley Open in Nottingham last weekend, recently made his return to the sport following a one-year ban after testing positive for cocaine at last year's Barcelona Open.

Evans had been in good form despite losing in the first round of Queen's, winning 16 of his 21 matches since his return to climb to world No. 340 in the latest ATP rankings, but it was not enough to convince organisers that he is worthy of a wild card.

The former world No. 41 will need to go through pre-qualification, starting Thursday, in order to make the main draw at SW19.

Evans' British compatriots Liam Broady and Jay Clarke were handed wild cards for the men's draw while Katie Boulter, Naomi Broady, Katie Swann, Harriet Dart and Gabi Taylor were handed spots in the women's draw.
