British No. 3 Cameron Norrie into Lyon Open second round

British No. 3 Cameron Norrie beat Jose Hernandez-Fernandez of the Dominican Republic 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the first round of the Lyon Open in France.

Norrie, ranked No. 102 in the world, had opened up a 3-1 lead in the first set following an early break, but failed to hold onto his own serve in the seventh game as Hernandez-Fernandez rallied.

Both players continued to struggle on serve in the tie-break, with Norrie pushing ahead 4-1 only to then see his opponent edge ahead 5-4.

Norrie, though, then converted two mini-breaks to finally wrap up the opening set, which lasted one hour and seven minutes.

The 21-year-old, born in Johannesburg, South Africa, then raced through the second set in just over 30 minutes.

The Briton will next take on Maximilian Marterer after the German defeated No. 6 seed Gael Monfils 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Elsewhere, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez beat No. 5 seed Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 while Radu Albot came from a set down to see off Federico Delbonis 6-7 (7), 7-5, 6-4.
