Lucky loser Marco Cecchinato defeats Damir Dzumhur at Hungarian Open

Lucky loser Marco Cecchinato booked his place in the quarterfinal of the Hungarian Open by defeating second seed Damir Dzumhur in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 inside an hour.

The decisive break in the first set came in the eighth game with Cecchinato then closing out the set. The Bosnian capitulated in the second set, winning just nine points off his first serve and none off his second as he fell to his third defeat to the Palermo native who will face Jan-Lennard Struff after the German saw off Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-4.

Third seed Richard Gasquet was another of the big hitters to fall in the second round as qualifier Lorenzo Sonego battled to a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory.

The conquering Italian faces Aljaz Bedene in the quarters after the fifth seed disposed of Matteo Berrettini 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.

Elsewhere Russian Mikhail Youzhny cruised past Hungary's Zsombor Piros 6-3, 6-3 and can look forward to a last 16 meeting with Andreas Seppi.
