Grigor Dimitrov, Kevin Anderson strengthen Stockholm Open bids

Grigor Dimitrov earned his spot in the Stockholm Open quarterfinals with a hard-fought victory over Jerzy Janowicz.

Top seed and 2013 winner Dimitrov advanced with a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win over qualifier Janowicz to join second seed Kevin Anderson, who saw off Hyeon Chung with a 6-3, 6-2 win to strengthen his bid for a place at next month's ATP Tour Finals in London.

"In the beginning I felt I was hitting the ball great and I was creating opportunities," Anderson, who faces Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinals, told the ATP Tour's official website.

"He [Chung] was hanging in there and it took me quite a few attempts to break serve. He defends so well and is a great athlete, so for me to come off the court with that scoreline feels good."

Fifth-seeded Mischa Zverev, a wild-card entrant in Sweden, beat Viktor Troicki 6-2, 6-3. Elsewhere, Yuichi Sugita edged a three-setter against Marcos Baghdatis, coming through with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph.
