NBA players, others applaud Thunder for reported Carmelo Anthony trade

It appears that Carmelo Anthony is finally leaving New York. League sources have told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that the New York Knicks have agreed to trade the 10-time All-Star to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he will join reigning MVP Russell Westbrook and Paul George on a reshaped Thunder roster.

According to sources, the Knicks will get Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott and a 2018 second-round pick in exchange for Anthony, 33, who will waive his no-trade clause.

With Melo joining Russ and PG, is that enough to overcome the world champion Golden State Warriors and other Western Conference superpowers like the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets? NBA players and others gave the Thunder credit for adding more firepower, but stopped short of suggesting the team could dethrone the Warriors with Melo and his orange headband in OKC.

If Anthony passes his physical and the deal is finalized Monday as expected, Melo will join the Thunder on Tuesday when the team opens training camp.
