Gorka Izagirre dashes Italian hopes, Bob Jungels defends pink

PESCHICI, Italy (AFP) - Spain's Gorka Izagirre kept the hosts waiting for a win at the 100th Giro d'Italia after capturing a thrilling eighth stage victory for his Movistar team on Saturday.

"The stage was very hard," admitted Izagirre after the stage. "I took the breakaway. The average speed was very high.

"[Giovanni] Visconti was probably the most dangerous rival for the stage victory in the front group," he continued. "I'm very happy that I won. I got an opportunity and I'm glad I didn't miss it."
