U.S. midfielder Weston McKennie sidelined with 'badly bruised' thigh - Schalke

United States midfielder Weston McKennie will be out "until further notice" after he was injured in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich, his club Schalke announced.

McKennie, 20, had to be helped off the pitch after receiving an unintentional kick in the leg from James Rodriguez as he won possession from the Colombian.

After a free kick was awarded for the challenge, McKennie was unable to continue and was replaced by Nabil Bentaleb in the 54th minute.

"His lower left thigh is badly bruised and there has been some internal bleeding," Schalke wrote on Twitter.

"Thankfully there is no bone damage, but he will still be out until further notice. Get well soon, Weston!"

The U.S. faces Colombia in Miami on Oct. 12 and Peru in Hartford, Connecticut on Oct. 17 in its next two friendlies.

McKennie, who has made six appearances for the U.S., missed Schalke's defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend after returning from international duty with a bruised knee.
