Preview: Nedbank Cup quarterfinals

Golden Arrows and Platinum Stars will get the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals underway on Saturday before the reigning champions SuperSport United face Kaizer Chiefs.

For the first time, all cup ties will feature on the same day due to league matches taking place next Tuesday.

Golden Arrows play Platinum Stars in the opening fixture at 3pm at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

Arrows edged African champions Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 to book their quarterfinal spot; while Stars beat Baroka FC by the same score line.

A struggling Chippa United host National First Division side Jomo Cosmos at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 3pm. The Chilly Boys have won just one of their last 10 league encounters and it took two late goals to overcome Polokwane City in their last-16 clash.

Jomo Sono's men were not going down without a fight and took PSL league contenders Bidvest Wits to a penalty shootout - which they won 5-4.

Kaizer Chiefs, the most successful Nedbank Cup team with 13 titles, play cup holders SuperSport United in what could be considered the match of the day, at the FNB Stadium at 6pm.

The two sides played to a 1-1 draw in the first round of league fixtures and are eight points apart.

Meanwhile, the league title is certainly out of reach for Orlando Pirates who occupy ninth position -- 19 points behind the log leaders. The Buccaneers will step out guns blazing against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Orlando Stadium.

Celtic have not done too well in the league either and picked up just one win in their last six league matches. They too, will put on a show to reward their faithful supporters.

Pirates and Celtic round's up the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals 8.30pm.
