Barcelona's Denis Suarez not planning on leaving Camp Nou in January - source

Denis Suarez will stay at Barcelona despite being restricted to just one appearance so far this season, a source close to the player has told ESPN FC.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with a January move for the midfielder as he remains on the fringes of Ernesto Valverde's plans.

Barca would be open to offers, but Denis remains intent on staying at the Camp Nou and turning his situation around -- at least until the end of the campaign.

The 24-year-old made his sole appearance this season in the Copa del Rey last month against third division side Cultural Leonesa. He's yet to feature in the league or the Champions League.

Since returning to Barca in 2016, he has made a total of 64 appearances for the first team, scoring six times.

He played 36 games under Luis Enrique in his first season back, but that number fell to 27 last year under Valverde, with 17 of those appearances coming as a substitute.

This season was supposed to be his big breakthrough after the departure of Andres Iniesta. Speaking to ESPN in the summer, he said he held hopes it would finally be the year that he took a "definitive step forward."

However, an unfortunately timed injury while on the club's tour of the United States set him back and ruled him out of the start of the season.

A source confirmed that a lack of action since returning to full fitness has led to inquiries from "some European clubs" but that Denis will stay at Barca for now.
