Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey: 'Concrete interest' from other clubs

Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey said he has drawn interest from a number of clubs only days before the Premier League transfer window closes.

Bailey, 20, was one of the breakout stars of the Bundesliga in 2017-18, scoring nine goals and setting up seven in 30 appearances in his first full season following his move from Genk in January 2017.

He did not score a league goal after Feb. 17, with his form fading away toward the end of the campaign, but clubs such as Roma, Chelsea and Liverpool have reportedly shown interest..

"There is concrete interest," Bailey told kicker when asked whether there was more to the rumours. "But at this moment I am only focused on playing good football."

When asked whether he could say that he will remain a Leverkusen player given the Premier League window closes on Thursday, he replied: "I won't make any promises now."

"What I can say is that my full focus to develop as a young player," he said. "If a club wants me, my management and Leverkusen will take care of it. They make the decisions."

Bailey, from Jamaica, also said he supports former Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt's attempts to switch sports. Bolt, set for a six-week trial with the Central Coast Mariners, earlier this year completed a trial with Borussia Dortmund.

"He really wants to become a professional footballer," Bailey said. "That's what he told me many times. He trained with a few teams. He wants to make it. I hope he succeeds."
