Hull City in advanced talks to land USMNT's Eric Lichaj - sources

Nottingham Forest's United States international defender Eric Lichaj is closing in on a move to Championship rivals Hull City, sources say.

Lichaj's future at Forest has been the subject of conjecture this summer with the player entering the final year of his contract at the City Ground.

The 29-year-old, who started for the U.S. in last month's friendly with Bolivia, is in search of regular first-team football, and sources said Hull are in advanced talks with Forest over a deal for Lichaj and are confident of agreeing a deal for the Chicago-born defender.

Lichaj has made 190 appearances for Forest since joining the club on a free transfer from Aston Villa in the summer of 2013 and is a big fans' favourite at the club. Forest signed him to a new deal in January to ensure he could not leave for free this summer.

The versatile defender scored one of the goals of last season with his stunning strike in the shock FA Cup victory over then holders-Arsenal in January.

A number of MLS clubs in have been monitoring Lichaj's situation at Forest, but it appears he is set to stay in England, where he has played his entire career since signing for Aston Villa in 2007.
