Julian Brandt signs new Bayer Leverkusen deal to end transfer speculation

Germany international forward Julian Brandt has ended speculation over his future by signing a new three-year contract at Bayer Leverkusen, the club have announced.

Brandt, whose deal runs until 2021, had been linked with clubs including Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich but becomes the third player after defender Jonathan Tah and captain Lars Bender to agree a new contract in the last two months.

"With this signature we were able to convince one of the most coveted German players to continue on our path," Leverkusen CEO Michael Schade was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

Brandt, 21, has frequently been linked with a move away from Leverkusen, and Schade said it was "a huge success to beat absolute top clubs from Germany and abroad" to his signature.

"There's something big growing here," Brandt said. "The recent contract extensions of Jonathan Tah and Lars Bender already showed that.

"Us three are fully convinced that we can achieve something with this team. We want silverware.

"I am fired up for working on that with the other lads, and also take more responsibility in that team."

Brandt has played in 126 Bundesliga matches since joining from Wolfsburg in January 2014, scoring 24 goals and setting up a further 25.
