Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham joins Swansea on season-long loan

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has joined Swansea City on a season-long loan deal.

Abraham, who has also signed a five-year contract extension at Chelsea, had also been wanted on a loan basis by newly promoted Newcastle United.

The move to Swansea sees the 19-year-old link up with former Chelsea assistant first-team coach Paul Clement as well as former Blues midfielder Claude Makelele, Clement's assistant.

Abraham established himself as one of the brightest young talents in English football during a loan spell at Bristol City last season, scoring 23 goals in 41 league appearances to help the club survive following their promotion to the Championship.

Chelsea are keen for Abraham to take the next step in his development by gaining Premier League experience, with Swansea reported to have provided assurances that he will be heavily involved in the first team.

Abraham delayed a final decision on his loan destination until after the European Under-21 Championship, where he scored one goal in four matches but missed a penalty in England's semifinal shootout defeat to Germany.
