Borussia Dortmund lead Alexander Isak race after late swoop - source

Although he was close to joining Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund have made a late move for AIK's Alexander Isak and the player could now pick Germany over Spain.

A source close to the 17-year-old player had confirmed to ESPN FC that Chelsea and Real Madrid were battling it out to land the emerging talent but the Spanish giants took the lead and had looked set to take him to Santiago Bernabeu.

However, in a late twist, the same source has revealed Dortmund have entered the race for Isak's signature and are now confident of securing his signature.

Real believed they had a "done deal" for the Sweden international after "multiple meetings" with AIK and French champions Paris Saint-Germain dropped out of the race because the Swedish club are looking for more than the €10 million the Ligue 1 giants were first willing to pay.

However, having looked set for Real, Isak is now said to be about to make a "U-turn" to join Dortmund because he believes Thomas Tuchel's men to be a "smarter choice," the source said.

Isak, of Eritrean heritage, scored 10 goals in 24 Allsvenskan appearances in the recent season just finished and scouts from Europe's biggest club have flocked to Solna to watch him in action in recent months.
