Paris Saint-Germain to ban fans involved in trouble at Red Star match

Paris Saint-Germain have moved to ban season-ticket holders involved in trouble at the Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Despite the closure of the Auteuil stand, where PSG's ultras gather, as well as a ban on travelling fans from Serbia, an increased security presence could not prevent fighting outside the ground after the match.

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against both clubs, with the case set to be heard on Oct. 18.

The clubs have been charged over crowd disturbances, with PSG charged after fireworks were set off and Red Star for offensive chanting.

"PSG condemn in the strongest terms the unacceptable incidents that took place surrounding Wednesday's Champions League match," a club statement said.

"The club deplores and condemns the damage caused and the use of pyrotechnics that were displayed towards the end of the game.

"The club intends to exclude, effective immediately, the identified troublemakers. PSG reiterates its desire to fight against such behaviour."

As of Friday evening in Paris, as first reported by RMC Sport, season ticket holders who were identified as part of the number involved in incidents have been informed via letter that their passes have been cancelled with immediate effect.

Culture PSG added that as many as 100 supporters are in the process of being informed by the French champions, which has been confirmed to ESPN FC by a source close to PSG's security department.

The letter informs the recipient that their season ticket has been revoked and that they will be unable purchase a new one, or any other type of PSG ticket, until at least October of 2019.

There is no direct specification in the PSG letter as to whether or not the punishment is related to the post-match scuffles or the mid-match use of flares.

Around 2,000 Red Star fans attended the match despite their fans being banned, and Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic called on France to allow them to "punish the criminals" who attacked their supporters.

"We, as a state, correctly sent reports to France about those responsible for the murder of Brice Taton [a Toulouse fan killed in Belgrade in 2009], so we expect the same in return here," Vucic said.

"There have not been serious consequences this time, but we want the names of those who attacked the Red Star fans."
