Mexico's Hirving Lozano will not face Argentina due to hamstring injury

Mexico winger Hirving Lozano will not travel to Argentina with the rest of the squad due to a right hamstring contracture, the Mexican federation (FMF) confirmed on Sunday.

Lozano was due to meet the squad in Cordoba ahead of Friday's first match against Argentina, but will miss both that match and the Nov. 20 clash against the same opposition in Mendoza.

"Chucky" Lozano was one of Mexico's best players at last summer's World Cup and the 23-year-old is a vital part of the younger generation of players that interim coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti has been picking post-Russia 2018.

No-one will be called in to replace Lozano, who has eight goals in 12 Eredivisie games so far this season for PSV Eindhoven. Lozano did complete the full 90 minutes for PSV in its 4-1 win over De Graafschap on Saturday.

Ferretti will also be without Santos Laguna defender Jesus Angulo, who fractured a bone in his left hand last Thursday. Youngster Angulo will be replaced by 31-year-old Cruz Azul defender Julio "Cata" Dominguez.

Mexico's Liga MX-based players will meet in Mexico City's international airport Sunday evening ahead of the journey to Cordoba, while the seven Europe-based players will fly directly to the South American nation.
