Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku misses training ahead of Juventus clash

MANCHESTER, England -- Romelu Lukaku sat out Manchester United's final training session before their Champions League game against Juventus in Turin on Wednesday.

Lukaku missed Saturday's 2-1 win at Bournemouth after picking up a muscle injury in training.

Despite undergoing treatment over the weekend, the 25-year-old was not deemed fit enough to take part in a training session, open to the media, at Carrington on Tuesday.

The United squad are set to fly to Italy on Tuesday afternoon ahead of their meeting with Juventus.

The Serie A champions' 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Oct. 23 is the last game Lukaku started. The Belgium international was dropped to the bench for the win over Everton after going nine games without a goal.

Diogo Dalot was the only other first-team player to miss training on Tuesday.

Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia, who have both missed the last five games through injury, took part in the session.

Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly, who were not part of the squad at Bournemouth, were also involved.

Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca has backed United midfielder Fred to become "one of the most important players in England" despite his difficult start at Old Trafford.

"He's a big talent and he's still developing," he said, speaking exclusively to ESPN FC.
