Manchester United struggle to fill Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho concern grows

Manchester United are struggling to sell tickets for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Valencia, taking the unusual step of giving fans the chance to pay on the door before the game.

United face the Spanish side at Old Trafford and ahead of the match, a text message alerted supporters they can buy tickets on the night.

It is extremely rare for tickets at Old Trafford to go on sale to fans who are not members of the official supporters' club but between 300 and 400 are available for the general public to purchase on the day. Most are for the East Stand and are priced at around £45.

It will do nothing to dampen a feeling that many United fans are becoming disillusioned with the style of football under Jose Mourinho, who said at his prematch news conference "some care more than others," at the club's poor run of form.

United have started the season with four wins from their first nine games in all competitions and have not won at Old Trafford since August. Victory over Leicester on the opening weekend of the season has been followed up with defeat to Tottenham, a draw with Wolves and a Carabao Cup exit to Championship side Derby County on penalties.
