The Red Bulls take top spot from Atlanta, while D.C. United and Seattle Sounders are on the up at the business end of the MLS season.

Week 30 ranking: 2
The Red Bulls scored a massive win over Atlanta on Sunday and took over the top spot in the rankings as a result. Without Bradley Wright-Phillips and Tyler Adams, New York still was able to dictate terms and close the gap at the top to a single point.

The Shield leaders were outclassed in New Jersey on Sunday, a game that saw Josef Martinez limited and the New York midfield dominate. Most worrying for Atlanta fans is that the Red Bulls looked ripe for the proverbial picking and United failed to make it count.
3. FC Dallas
Record: 15-9-6
Week 30 ranking: 3
A point on the road in Portland was enough to secure a playoff spot for Oscar Pareja and FC Dallas, though the chances created were few in number. With SKC drawing on Sunday, FC Dallas maintained their spot at the top of the Western Conference.
4. Record: 14-5-11
Week 30 ranking: 7
The Sounders broke the two-game losing streak that ended their nine-game winning streak with a 4-0 destruction of the Rapids at CenturyLink Field. Is it confidence restored or just an easy win against a bad team?
5. LAFC
Record: 14-8-8
Week 30 ranking: 4
Bob Bradley and company got a bit of a shock on the road in Chicago, where the Fire dropped three goals and prevented LAFC from earning any points toward a bye in the West. A defensive letdown is a warning for the expansion team with the playoffs looming.
6. Record: 13-7-11
Week 30 ranking: 8
RSL earned a significant road point in Kansas City on Sunday night thanks to a Corey Baird goal (the rookie's seventh of the season) and the play of goalkeeper Nick Rimando. RSL managed the draw despite playing without key man Albert Rusnak, who didn't make the trip.
7. Record: 15-7-8
Week 30 ranking: 6
It's "as you were" for Sporting after a 1-1 draw on Sunday night against RSL. SKC had a chance to jump over FC Dallas for first place, but the finishing wasn't good enough to make several good chances count at home against Rimando & Co.
8. Record: 13-9-9
Week 30 ranking: 7
Chances were few and far between in the Crew's Eastern Conference tilt against Philadelphia on Saturday. With every point a potential wrinkle in the seeding for clubs in the playoffs, Columbus can be relieved VAR bailed them out against the Union.
9. D.C. United
Record: 10-8-11
Week 30 ranking: 12
United entered the weekend and a showdown with Montreal needing to prove they could handle the pressure of a must-win at home. All D.C. did was put the Impact to the sword, blistering the visitors with five goals and stepping closer to the postseason.
10. Portland Timbers
Record: 13-9-9
Week 30 ranking: 10
Giovanni Savarese's nominal frustration at the end of Saturday's goalless draw against FC Dallas was with a refereeing decision involving Liam Ridgewell, but the Portland boss was probably just as frustrated with his team's inability to score and win at home.
11. Record: 14-5-12
Week 30 ranking: 11
The Union stayed a point behind Columbus with a goalless draw on the road at Mapfre Stadium. Chances that the Union might catch the Crew got a little narrower with the result, but there's still a lot to play for in the Eastern Conference.
12. LA Galaxy
Record: 12-8-11
Week 30 ranking: 14
The Galaxy pulled within two points of a playoff spot this weekend thanks to RSL's draw and their own 3-0 win over Vancouver. It's too early to tell whether the coaching change will put the Galaxy in the playoffs, but the club is benefiting from a new-boss bump.
13. New York City FC
Record: 15-8-9
Week 30 ranking: 11
The inconsistent play of Domenec Torrent's team continued with a win and a loss this week. The win came against Chicago at Yankee Stadium and the loss on the road in Minnesota.
14. Minnesota United
Record: 12-3-16
Week 30 ranking: 16
The Loons built on a win over Portland last week with a 2-1 victory over NYCFC on Saturday. Minnesota kept its thin playoff hopes alive with the win and saw signs of promise from Colombian DP Angelo Rodriguez, who scored both goals for the home side.
15. Montreal Impact
Record: 12-4-15
Week 30 ranking: 13
In some leagues, the performance Montreal delivered at Audi Field -- with a chance to play for a championship almost literally on the line -- is enough to get a coach fired. Team president Joey Saputo might not see it that way, but the Impact's loss in D.C. was a disaster.
16. Toronto FC
Record: 9-6-15
Week 30 ranking: 18
Toronto probably won't make the playoffs, which is somewhat sad considering how good the champs can still be. Saturday's 4-1 win over New England kept the Reds (barely) alive and showed they can still look great on occasion.
17. Houston Dynamo
Record: 9-8-13
Week 30 ranking: 19
A 3-2 comeback win on the weekend over San Jose that followed a U.S. Open Cup triumph brings some joy in an otherwise lost season in Houston. The hope is that the club can parlay the good feelings into renewed support in 2019.
18. Record: 11-7-12
Week 30 ranking: 15
The Whitecaps couldn't handle the Galaxy after a tumultuous week that put former academy technical director Craig Dalrymple on the sideline. The 3-0 loss in Los Angeles means Vancouver's margin for error in the playoff race is essentially gone.
19. Chicago Fire
Record: 8-7-16
Week 30 ranking: 20
A loss and a win for the Fire over four days with the season already over from a playoff perspective. Chicago got a glimpse of what could be next season thanks to Djorjde Mihailovic's excellent performance against LAFC on Saturday.
20. Record: 8-11-11
Week 30 ranking: 17
The Revs collapsed under the pressure of trying to stay alive in the playoff chase, with the full weight evident in a 4-1 loss to TFC on Saturday. New England's push for a playoff spot is effectively over with a few weeks to go in the campaign.
21. Orlando City
Record: 7-4-18
Week 30 ranking: 21
The Lions resume the schedule next week against FC Dallas in Texas.
22. Colorado Rapids
Record: 6-6-18
Week 30 ranking: 22
A bad team (Colorado) went on the road and lost 4-0 to a good team (Seattle) on Saturday. There's not much more to say about the Rapids, at least not until the season ends and change comes to Commerce City.
23. Record: 4-8-19
Week 30 ranking: 23
The only good part of the Quakes' 3-2 loss to Houston on Saturday, a game in which San Jose led 2-0 through 55 minutes, is that Chris Wondolowski scored. He needs three goals over the final three games this season to break the MLS career goal-scoring record, held by Landon Donovan.
