Scottish FA speaks out against FA's idea for Team GB 2016 Olympic sides

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has followed the Football Association of Wales (FAW) in speaking out against the Football Association's proposal for Great Britain teams at the 2016 Olympics.

The FA had originally ruled out entering male and female Great Britain teams in Rio de Janeiro but has since written to the Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh associations asking if they would like to take part.

That move caused some anger at the FAW, which fears it may threaten its independent status within FIFA, and the SFA has now expressed similar concerns.

"We have been consistently clear in our opposition to Team GB," an SFA spokesperson was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Team GB sides managed by the FA played at the London 2012 Olympics after a 52-year absence from the Games.

Several players from the home nations participated despite the other associations refusing to officially take part.
