Gor Mahia, Simba reach CECAFA Kagame Cup semis

Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC and Tanzanian giants Simba SC have qualified for the semifinals of the CECAFA Kagame Club Championships currently taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Gor Mahia had to battle hard against Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC, who took the lead after just 15 minutes through new captain Tadeo Lwanga.

Despite the setback, the Kenyans had the better of the first half, with wingers Innocent Wafula and Godfrey Walusimbi causing constant headaches for the defenders.

The equalising goal finally arrived in the 47th minute through Jacques Tuyisenge, before new Burundian signing Francis Mustafa found the winner.

"I am happy that my players stuck to the game plan," Kerr told KweséESPN after the game. "Like I predicted, Vipers SC are not an easy team."

In the day's other game, hosts Simba SC saw off Djibouti's AS Ports 1-0, with Rashid Muhammad netting the only goal.

Gor Mahia and Simba SC will now do battle in the last four, with the other semifinal to be contested between the winner of Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (Zanzibar) and Singida United (Tanzania), and Azam FC (Tanzania) vs Rayon Sports (Rwanda).
