West Ham's Javier Hernandez on Besiktas' transfer list - sources

Besiktas are interested in a January move for West Ham striker Javier Hernandez, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Black Eagles sent club officials including board member Umut Guner to London recently for talks with transfer targets on the shortlist.

The Istanbul-based outfit are desperate to sign a new striker over the winter transfer window and Hernandez is among the players being targeted.

Besiktas have held talks with Hernandez's representatives over the possibility of a loan move in January.

The club have yet to make West Ham a formal offer but there could be a development depending on the Mexico international's willingness to play in Turkey.

Besiktas president Fikret Orman is expected to arrive in London later this week if talks progress.

Hernandez has struggled for playing time at the East London-based side this term starting just one of West Ham's last 10 Premier League games.

The 30-year-old has scored just two goals, which came against Burnley in the Premier League and AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.

The striker has scored just 10 goals in 43 games since joining the Hammers

Hernandez is understood to be unhappy with his current situation and West Ham may consider their options in January as he is the highest paid member of the squad earning £145,000 a week.

Besiktas would want Hernandez on a loan deal until the end of the 2018-19 campaign with an option to buy included if a deal were to go ahead.

The Black-Whites are however, facing financial problems and could struggle to match Hernandez's current wages.

The club would have to structure a deal that would require West Ham to cover part of his salary.

Besiktas have made signing a new striker a priority. Vagner Love has struggled for form as has Canada international Cyle Larin and Mustafa Pektemek is not seen as a viable first-choice striker in the long run by the board.

The team has struggled upfront since selling Cenk Tosun to Everton last January and parting ways with Benfica attacking midfielder Talisca who is on loan in China.

The Super Lig outfit are currently seventh in the league table on 18 points after 12 games.
