Rain postpones first leg of Copa Libertadores between Boca Juniors, River Plate

The first leg of the Copa Liberatadores between Argentina rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate has been postponed due to heavy rains in Buenos Aires, CONMEBOL announced on Saturday.

Officials said the match will now take place on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. GMT (2:00 p.m. ET).

Images at Boca's Bombonera stadium showed pools of standing water all around the pitch. The decision was made hours after CONMEBOL and stadium officials had initially assured the match would go on.

The final pits Argentina's two biggest teams vying for South America's most prestigious club competition -- the first time the Superclasico rivals have met in the tournament's final stage.

The second leg is scheduled at River Plate's Estadio Monumental on Saturday, Nov. 24.
