Tottenham advanced to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup after beating West Ham 3-1 at the London Stadium for the second time in a fortnight.
Son Heung-Min scored twice -- his first strikes of the season -- while Dele Alli provided the assists, the day after signing a new six-year contract.
Manuel Pellegrini's hosts pulled a goal back from a corner, but Fernando Llorente promptly made it 3-1 and secured Spurs' passage to the last eight.
Positives
Mauricio Pochettino made 10 changes to his side so this was a good test of Tottenham's strength in depth, and they passed that examination with flying colours.
Twenty-year-old centre-back Juan Foyth particularly impressed in his first appearance of the season, while Paulo Gazzaniga produced a string of important saves and Son made a welcome return to the scoresheet.
Spurs' progress in the Carabao Cup is important in itself too. The last time the north Londoners reached the last eight, in 2014-15, they went on to the final. With Manchester United and Liverpool already out of the competition, that elusive trophy is one step closer.
Negatives
Spurs have conceded from too many set pieces this season, and it happened again here. Kyle Walker-Peters also failed to take his chance at right-back in his first outing of the campaign. Drawing Arsenal away in the quarterfinals makes for a tough end of year test as well.

GK Paulo Gazzaniga, 8 -- Produced three big saves, twice denying Michail Antonio one vs. one and then clawing an Angelo Ogbonna shot away from the bottom corner.
DF Kyle Walker-Peters, 5 -- Struggled physically against Antonio and got caught underneath the ball when West Ham halved the deficit with a corner kick to the back post.
DF Juan Foyth, 9 -- Defended brilliantly, making a series of important last-ditch interventions and tackles, while also looking assured on the ball and always seeking to be positive.
DF Davinson Sanchez, 8 -- Made a host of interceptions, clearances and headers at the heart of an unfamiliar and largely inexperienced defence.
DF Serge Aurier, 7 -- Probably guilty of underestimating Grady Diangana at the start but the Ivorian, who was deployed out of position at left-back, soon got to grips with the youngster. He also blocked a powerful Marko Arnautovic shot in the second half.
MF Victor Wanyama, 6 -- Reliable in possession but sometimes a little passive and pedestrian when defending, giving West Ham's midfielders time and space.
MF Harry Winks, 7 -- Busy with and without the ball. Thankfully didn't seem to be hampered by an ankle injury sustained late in the first half.
MF Christian Eriksen, 7 -- Started brightly, making some good runs in behind the Hammers' defence, and helped to create the opening goal. But he could have been more influential.
MF Dele Alli, 7 -- Created both goals for Son with a neat flick and a curling through ball, although in truth both of his passes should have been cut out.
MF Son Heung-Min, 8 -- Took his goals well, making well-timed runs in behind the defence and finishing clinically.
FW Fernando Llorente, 7 -- A strange performance. The Spaniard was anonymous for long periods, yet he played a part in the build-up to the first two goals and scored the third, volleying home from six yards out.
Substitutes
MF Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, 6 -- The third Tottenham player to make his first appearance of the season, the French winger nearly scored at the end but was denied by Adrian while also being flagged offside.
MF Moussa Sissoko, N/A -- Replaced Llorente for the final 15 minutes and helped to ensure West Ham were unable to get back into the game again.
MF Oliver Skipp, N/A -- Got a brief run-out at the end in place of Eriksen.
